The (Associate) Research Professor / Director develops the program, faculty and staff of the Louisiana Geological Survey which is recognized for its preeminence interpreting important geological features, resources, and processes that impact and benefit Louisiana. The position reports to the Executive Director of the Center for Energy Studies.. Job Responsibilities:. Direct and supervise LGS research and administrative policies, activities, and budgets carried out by faculty, research staff, and support personnel. Facilitate the development of intellectual property that can be used to generate supplemental funding for LGS. Establish and implement program priorities and allocation of resources under the direction of the Executive Director of the Center of Energy Studies (CES). (30%). Develop externally-funded research programs and activities. Publish in peer-reviewed journals as well as developing geosciences publications intended for other types of LGS stakeholders. Present research papers at academic and professional meetings and conferences on topics of current energy and/or environmental importance. Speak to civic and business groups. Interact with local, regional, and national media. Pursue collaborative activities with faculty within and outside of LSU. (30%). Develop and supervise external activities of LGS in coordination with other CES programs that include, but are not limited to, organizing information transfer activities, conferences, workshops, and continuing education/professional certification courses. Develop and maintain relations with state and federal executive agencies. Coordinate with the CES Executive Director in fund-raising activities to create new and supplemental sources of funding. (30%). Develop relationships with academic department that can include, but is not limited to providing guest lectures, periodic lectures, or \"team teaching\" on energy, natural resource, physical science and other topics. This can include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in the Department of Environmental Sciences or the Department of Geology and Geophysics under an instructor, adjunct or joint appointment depending up on the faculty member holding this position. This requirement can also include supervising, mentoring and and/or directing the research and academic studies of geology, physical sciences and engineering students at the undergraduate and graduate level. (10%). Minimum Qualifications:. Ph.D. in Geology, Geophysics, or other Geoscience and 9 - 15 years of professional or academic experience in earth-science related programs; 5 years of supervisory experience that includes serving as a PI of funded research or manager/supervisor of consulting projects..
