Unit Leader
Unit Leader - Camp Timberlane
Salary: $250/week
Qualifications/Expectations: High School Degree or equivalent required. Work as a team with Program Director and program staff to develop and implement unit programs. Oversee unit counselors, paperwork and scheduling. Work with campers to provide fun, high-quality program opportunities. Ensure the safety of all participants. Interacts appropriately with campers in a variety of situations using appropriate positive behavior management techniques.
Position Summary: The Unit Leader will work as a team with the Program Director and program staff to develop and implement unit programs. She will oversee unit counselors, unit paperwork and scheduling. Work with campers to provide fun, high-quality program opportunities. Ensure the safety of all participants. She also interacts appropriately with campers in a variety of situations using appropriate positive behavior management techniques.
Major Accountabilities:
1. Together with Unit Counselors, Program Staff and campers, plan and execute the programs for campers
2. Supervises unit staff in appropriate actions for health and safety of campers
3. Is responsible for the welfare, safety, and cleanliness of each individual and camper unit
4. Observes camper's health and reports any concerns to Health Supervisor
5. Informs Assistant Camp Director of any camper or staff problems
6. Attends weekly Unit Leader meetings
7. With help of Unit Counselors, fills out weekly paperwork and turns in to Assistant Camp Director
8. Assist those campers and staff who may need help fitting into the camp setting
9. Ensures good morale by monitoring staff
10. Assist each child with daily living tasks in living units as needed
11. Submits the appropriate evaluations during camp
12. Conducts initial and end-of-season inventory; store equipment for safety
13. Ensures that duties are performed by Unit Counselors and campers
14. Reports all incidents/accidents to supervisor immediately
15. Responsible for completing and returning all records to the supervisor
16. Maintain Girl Scouts of the USA, Girl Scouts of North East Ohio and the American Camping Association standards at all times
17. As a member of Girl Scouts of the USA, ensures that diversity and pluralism is embraced and incorporated into the work
18. Other duties as needed to conduct a successful program
Council Expectations of Employee:
* Lives on camp property during resident camp (June-August)

* Acts as a role model for girls and volunteers in the council and community
* Supports council initiatives, policies, procedures and directives
* Ability to take care of personal needs in order to remain healthy in the camp setting
* Identify and respond appropriately to hazards and emergencies
* Instruct campers in emergency procedures
* Maintains membership in Girl Scouts of the USA
* Successful completion of criminal background check on annual basis
* Behaves and communicates in a positive and respectful way
* Proactive in conversations with supervisor and volunteers
* Good organizational skills
* Willingness and ability to follow directions
* Communicates regularly and openly with supervisor
* Demonstrates flexible and efficient time management and ability to prioritize work load
* Consistently reports to work on time prepared to perform duties of position
* Meets Department and individual performance goals and standards
* Acts with enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, flexibility and self-control
Position Qualifications:
* Minimum age 20
* Desire and ability to work with children and adults in a camp setting
* Ability to creatively schedule programs, facilities, and staff
* Able to supervise staff and campers
* Demonstrated ability to successfully handle conflict resolution at all levels with a variety of people, including external customers
* Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures
* Possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers
* Ability to pay close attention to detail and maintain confidentiality
* Ability to communicate the written and spoken word with tact, diplomacy, and/or authority when necessary
* Well disciplined, able to meet deadlines
* Self-starter
* Able to work under pressure of many priorities and deadlines
* Ability to work well as a part of a team
* Knowledge of the Girl Scout program preferred
* Ability to meet schedule requirements, including flexible work week, early hours, nights, and weekends
* Will require travel throughout the GSNEO jurisdiction
* Valid driver's license; and access to insured vehicle in working condition. Daily access to dependable transportation

* Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
* Work occasionally in a high stress work environment
* Evening and/or weekend work is required as needed
* May be required to work with volunteers/staff
* Activities may occur both inside and outside requiring talking and walking
